Building on Apex AscendOS
How to use these guides when you integrate through Apex AscendOS rather than with Monark directly.
These guides are written for platforms that integrate with Monark's API directly. If you are building on Apex AscendOS, you never call Monark: you call AscendOS, and Apex calls Monark on your behalf.
Your application → Apex AscendOS → MonarkYou do not need a Monark API key, and none of the Monark endpoints in these guides are available to you.
What to take from these guides
The guides describe how Monark's private markets products behave, and that behaviour reaches your investors whichever API you call. Use them for:
- What to show investors: the marketplace, company pages, offering pages, the order ticket, document signing and the portfolio.
- The order of steps: discovery, eligibility, order, signature and settlement.
- The rules that shape the experience: minimums, seat limits, funding deadlines, non-binding indications of interest, and the fact that an SPV position cannot be redeemed.
What to take from Apex instead
Everything you send or receive comes from AscendOS, so take these from Apex's developer documentation:
- Endpoints and authentication
- Request and response fields
- Order statuses
- Events and webhooks
- Error codes
Monark-specific material in these guides is labelled: endpoint tables appear under Monark endpoints headings, code samples are titled Monark API, and UI tables name the Monark field behind each element. Read those parts for the concept, then use the AscendOS equivalent.
"Your platform" means Apex
Throughout these guides, "your platform" and "partner" mean the company that integrates with Monark directly. When you build on AscendOS, that company is Apex. Steps the guides give to the partner, such as wiring funds when an SPV closes, are Apex's to carry out.
Monark and AscendOS side by side
| Concept | In these guides (Monark) | Through AscendOS (Apex) |
|---|---|---|
| Authentication | Monark partner API key | Apex bearer token and x-api-key |
| Place an order | POST /primary/v2/transaction | Create Alternative Order: POST /trading/v1/accounts/{account_id}/alternativeOrders |
| Avoid duplicate orders | IdempotencyKey header | client_order_id. A duplicate returns ALREADY_EXISTS (409) |
| Sign documents | Transaction actions | Get Pending Investor Actions, which returns action_uri and action_uri_embeddable |
| Order status | Pending, Processing, Complete and others | RECEIVED → AWAITING_SIGNATURE → PENDING_SETTLEMENT → BOOKED → FILLED, or REJECTED |
| Status updates | Monark webhooks | The alternative_order.v1.updated event |
| Is the offering open? | monarkStage is PRIMARY_FUNDRAISE and the SPV is approved for distribution | The asset's state is OPEN |
| Errors | HTTP status and a detail message | An error object with a code, such as INVALID_ARGUMENT, and details |
| Moving money | The partner wires the total when the SPV closes | Apex holds the order amount in the account when the order is placed and transfers it at settlement. There is nothing for you to wire |
| Accounts, accreditation and indications of interest | Monark endpoints | Apex's own endpoints |
| Field names | camelCase | snake_case |
